Extra BC history exploration activities...


  • Is your street or town named after a person? Can you discover who that person was? Ask members of your family, ask at your local library, or try the Internet!
  • Who are the parks and schools named after in your town? Do their names commemorate any important events in local or BC history?
  • British Columbia is made up of immigrants from all over the world. Where is your family from? Do your parents or grandparents have stories about moving to BC or to Canada?
  • If you are of First Nations heritage, what peoples or nations are your family from? For a list and map of First Nations Peoples in BC, try this website: www.bced.gov.bc.ca
  • Is there a historical museum near you? If so, visit it and see if it has a display of local or BC history.
  • Are you going to travel in BC this summer? Trace your route on a map, and look online or in your library for information about the history of the places you'll be visiting.
  • You are part of BC history! Draw a picture of you and your family, or draw a timeline of your life: What big world events do you remember? What important things have happened to you, and when did they happen?
  • BC is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year! Find out more about celebrations and events all over the province at www.bc150.ca or at your local library.
